Last week we skipped the music roundup to focus on our massive EPL podcast and individual team previews leading up to the big first weekend of English soccer. But we’re back at it today with a rundown of some newfound tracks and a few mixes I ran across in the last two weeks. Happy Weekend.
A. CHAL – Round Whippin’
It’s been over a year since A. CHAL released this track, the second single from his debut album Welcome to GAZI, but 12 months has done nothing to diminish the dopeness of this airy, ethereal R&B track.
Check the rest of the LP here:
Mick Jenkins – Spread Love (Prod. by Sango)
I first heard Mick on the Kirk Knight track “I Know”. Dude has excellent flow and an ear for stellar beats (Sango is prolific). Mick’s new album will be out soon. Can’t wait.
GRiZ – Before I Go feat. Leo Napier
On a random Wednesday night in 2013 I was invited to see Datsik at 9:30 Club. Before he came on and ruptured my ear drums with his earth rattling dubstep a tall skinny dude came out on stage and started playing a few Pretty Light-sounding songs. Sure no big deal this is an interesting opener, I thought. Until suddenly the kid whips out a saxophone and starts riffing over the electro house track. Amazing stuff. This dude is uber talented and I highly recommend you check out his old projects as well as the rest of his new album when it comes out.
Check out GRiZ’s debut EP Mad Liberation too.
Andrew Luce – Baby Girl
This kid is 17 years old. Literally born in 1999. Age is just a number I suppose because he makes trap music I want to listen to even though he was barely out of diapers when Gucci Mane’s Trap House came out. Fuck.
REZZ @ Shambhala 2016 Set
Last weekend, mau5trap artist and Bakery favorite, REZZ took the stage at the iconic Shambhala Music Festival in British Columbia, Canada. For nearly 90 minutes she fucks shit up. There’s no other way I can put it. Listen for yourself and tell me I’m wrong.
PS: If you’re interested, I highly recommend watching her set replete with dope visuals. Follow the link.
Shiba San @ Dirtybird BBQ
Just south of Shambhala the second night of Dirtybird BBQ was raging on in Seattle, Washington. Here is Shiba San’s hour plus mix from that event. Absolute madness from start to finish.
The Radar: Mixed by BlackGummy
BlackGummy is another mau5trap artist with a dark and ominous vibe similar to REZZ. Joel clearly has a sound he latches onto with new artists, and I’m not mad at him for it. This is a few months old, but still a fierce listen nonetheless.
